Niko and Theo Milonopoulous
Although still in high school, these twin brothers have proven
a substantial voice in Los Angeles politics. As founders of the
lobbying group Kidz Voice-LA, Niko and Theo Milonopoulous have
worked to rally public support and legislative backing for their
gun-control initiatives. Recently, they convinced the Los Angeles
City Council to support, in concept, a ban on the sale of 50-caliber
ammunition. All of the Milonopoulous' efforts are aimed at mobilizing
young people. To this end, the brothers have organized a variety
of events, including meltdown rallies and peace marches, which
place youth involvement center stage in the fight against gun
violence.
The brothers have successfully employed many tools to communicate
their message: they have launched a "kids petition"
accumulating over 7,000 signatures of young people in support
of their initiatives, they have authored numerous editorials,
appeared on television programs, and have been featured in several
magazines and newspapers. The Milonopoulous brothers
have also spoken publicly at a large number of events including
the Million Mom March. Currently, they are at work on a website
to broadcast their message and gain national support.
They have also increased their involvement in the political process
by participating in the United Nations Children's Summit. Most
recently, the Milonopoulous brothers have been
working as congressional pages in Washington, D.C.
